I would also like to have 7zip supported. 7zip is released under GNU LGPL, hence using it should not be a problem?!

read AND write also for RAr files

#7 Post by omerfree » 08.02.2008, 18:21

Today there is support for read/write only for zip and cab files.

RAR is a widely used format but yet there is no support for write option ( you can't double click a RAR files in one pane and than perform a copy command from the other pane - directly into the RAR file).

There is also no support for RAR in the "pack" option (only ZIP and CAB).

Omer.

I think that`s because Rar is a closed source/licensed product, that`s why of all the many hundreds of (free) archiving programs, you very rarely see the option to make a rar.

I think that`s what it`s all about anyway :?:

7-Zip support

I agree that a full support of 7-Zip format (open source software) in FreeCommander is desirable.

Searching in 7zip archives would be very handy.

Operating inside archives and custom extension archives

#12 Post by useresu » 25.07.2008, 14:16

I can see that for archives you resolve their type by extension. It would be nice to have a possibility to open files without proper extension - just recognize the type of file by its meta information.

A good example are .war and .ear files (zip archives).
Also a nice feature is to operate inside of the files - go inside, edit file, get out = automatic repack.

You've probably seen it in the "similar" product ;)

Do you tried the option "Treat the following archive files as a ZIP:" in Settings > Archive file?

One thing that works well for me is to use WinRAR and the context menu. I select items, right-click, choose "Add to archive..." or the "Add to <filename>" where the filename is auto-generated. It works quite well.

Does 7z offer integration with context menus? If so, that may be a good we to do it also.
