ftp copy from any pane with drag and drop and edit

#1 Post by robert123 » 17.07.2008, 10:04

It would be much nicer if we could just drag over files int a ftp pane. At the moment as far as I know it is only possible to select files and then click on copy. Dragging will not work with ftp.

Besides this small thing above, the only other thing missing that I would really like to see in the ftp browser is to be able to edit files that are on the ftp (by launching the default text editor, opening the file in it, when i click on save on the text editor it will be saved back to ftp).

With these features integrated i could actually completely deinstall smartftp, that i still use at the moment.

The ftp in FreeCommander works perfectly for me, with the exception of drag and drop. This is a very minor thing as f5 or the copy button works fine, but this would be icing on the cake. I am now using FreeCommander in the place of Filezilla for all of my ftp needs.

I was able to edit text files directly on the ftp pane in FreeCommander by using right click edit, and when I was done it automatically uploaded it back for me. This is a great time saving feature, and I am glad that it is included.

dont know how i could miss that. Somehow the "edit" didnt appear in my context menu. Anyway, tried again and it works just like I would like it too. Nice!

Dont think I will need smartftp now anymore.

I think that F5 is better than dragging, more precise and less likely to go wrong. Mice are nice, but they do drop things and they can cause a lot of file searching.

I haven't used Filezilla for quite a while now. Or some other things I used to use. Heck, I have FC open already anyway. :D

Yes, mice can be imprecise. But "drag and drop" support would still make the FTP feature "feel" complete. If you can drag and drop from one pane to the other for all other folders/drives, why not FTP too?

Just my 2 cents, but this feature would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ryan
