iPhone with Windows XP SP3 and FreeCommander XE

When connecting to an iPhone (5c), there are a couple of issues.
First the iPhone doesn't show up in the list of drive Icons at the top of the pane
If I then navigate to the iPhone via the desktop list I can list the photos on the iPhone, double click them to open them in the Windows picture viewer, send them to XnView, display them as thumbnails in FreeCommander EX & everything seems to work just fine. However if I try to copy them over to the hard drive I get an error message "Cannot copy from the source file or disc" (they copy over fine from Windows explorer), so I thought that I'd better let you know.
