Error 1294 when zipping files with password

I have a directory tree with files that I am trying to zip up. There is the root directory with files, several child sub-directories with files, and some of those child sub-directories also have sub-directories with files. I get Error 1294 when I try to zip up all the directories and files ONLY when specifying a password. If I remove all the 3rd layer ("grand-child) sub-directories, it works fine. It gives the error 1294 WITH "grand-child" sub-directories (regardless whether there are files in these sub-directories or not) AS LONG AS I try and use a password, any password.

root
sub-dir1
sub-sub-dir ("grand-child") - fails when any sub-sub-dir is present anywhere in this tree structure
sub-dir2
sub-dir3

Thank you.

This was reported back in Oct 2009 and is still a problem, even using 2009.02b and XP SP3.

Could you maybe test the same with XE preview version?

I'm sorry, but the XE version does not seem to work at all. I click on "Configure" in the "Pack files" window and nothing happens. So I can't enter a password or anything.

Okay, I went into the Settings menu under "Extras" and made some changes there - now when I click on "Configure" it pops up a similar window as did "Settings". But there is no place to enter a password. So this does me no good - I have to be able to put passwords on my .zip files.

  • - Select some files/folders to pack
    - Call the pack dialog with Alt+F5
    - Check the "Encrypt" option
    - You can click on "Configure..." button and select encryption method
    - Start pack operation with "OK" button
    - If you checked "Encrypt" then a dialog for passoword will be shown

I did not get an error and the zip file was created. But I don't like the interface as well.

PLUS now when I go back to my regular install of FreeCommander, the zip screen is all screwed up. Why did my settings change on my regular version? I can't change the target archive. What's going on here?

Okay, it was because I was viewing the contents of the just created .zip file and because of that I could not zip anew.
Fixed. I went back and tried the regular version again and it still does not zip using a password. So XE apparently works (but I prefer the present interface - and I can't be using a beta version in my work).

Thank you.
