Crashing fccontextmenu64.exe

#1 Post by kandehalux » 23.11.2010, 16:57

Hi there!

First - of course - thanks for this great and vital application.

Recently i changed from Windows XP to Windows 7 Pro 64bit - and also to a new notebook. I got the newest Freecommander-Version from your site. Since the installation i'm facing recurring problems with fccontextmenu64.exe. It keeps on crashing.

I deinstalled fc and reinstalled it in a different folder. It still crashed.
New try: deinstallation - deleted everything connected in the registry and reinstalled it. it still crashes!!

the very strange thing about it is, when i end the process manually and start fc again, it works...for a few clicks. BUT when i try to open the contextmenu, it takes about half a second to a second til it comes up, which is not normal (wasnt on xp)

I read the topic in this forum by someone who had the same issue. in that case it had something to do with outpost firewall - which i dont use. i'm using the comodo firewall and avira antivir. in the comodo settings i set fccontextmenu64.exe to allow everything. windows defender and windows firewall are deactivated.

what is going on? any idea?

If you have problems with FcContextMenu64 than try to switch to 32 bit context menu.
Simply define in the freecommander.ini (first close FC)
[Form]
ShowContextMenu64Bit=0

Hi Marek,

i followed your orders and it works fine now!!

I'm curious, whats the difference between the 64bit and 32bit contextmenu? in the back of my mind the 32bit needs more space in an 64-OS than an 'customized' 64, right? but there isnt any additional process in the 32bit version - so...why the 64?

by the way: never thought, that any good piece of software would come out of MOOSBURG!!!!!! lived in landshut for a few months. really nice work with the freecommander. keep up the good work.

Hi,
if you run on 64Bit then programs needed to run a 64Bit Context otherwise they don't add there lines into the Contextmenu.
Like AntiVir or WinMerge.
See 64Bit-Context:

See as 32Bit-Context:

TortoiseSVN is running as 64Bit and as 32Bit that's why it adds lines in both Contexmenus.
But lines from AntiVir and WinMerge are missing.
When you run WindowsExplorer on a 64Bit-System then only 64Bit-Context will be shown. With FC you have the feature that you can have both Contextmenus. If you press the left Winkey and then right Mousekey you will get the 32Bit when you have set to use 64Bit or the opposite.
Depends on: ShowContextMenu64Bit=1 or ShowContextMenu64Bit=0

Run FC on: Win10 x64 (English), Win10 x64 (German), Win7 x64 (German)

okay, i see - makes sense!! :D

however, it seems that this fccontextmenu64-issue doesnt come up often. therefore the problem is something in my system. i'll try different settings - first of all, try another firewall.

if i have a solution, i will proudly post it.

@HeiWoMa: your win7 seems to work fine with fc - what defense-software do you use?

Hi,
I'm running AntiVir-Premium and WindowsFirewall. Windows Defender is Off.
I'm running FC portbale. So maybe it's a good test to use the portable version.

Hi,
another point I found out with 64Bit-Context: It works only the in the File View not in the Tree View. In The Tree view you only get a 32Bit Context even with the left Win-key.
