Custom keyboard shortcuts not working

#1 Post by djstotsky » 06.09.2009, 02:52

I want to change a keyboard shortcut, but the "Assign" and "Save" buttons are grayed-out on all current shortcuts. Also, the box for 'New Shortcut' is inactive.

Running XP SP3, FC 2009.02
Really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

'New Shortcut' field shouldn't be inactive. Please check this guide from granny:

The dialog boxes for Define Shortcuts are operative and I can assign new shortcuts. However, all customizations are forgotten after closing FC. The next time I start FC, all shortcuts have returned to their default assignments.

Not sure if this is the problem, but ----

Remember to click ASSIGN button first, then Save, then OK to exit the editing window.
If you don't click Assign, the settings only hold for that session.
Assign loads them into a special ini-type file "Freecommander.shc" so they will be available the next time you open FC.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much, Granny. Solved.

It was surprising that customized keyboard shortcuts were lost, because I have "Auto save settings" enabled in Settings>General, and in addition I may manually run Extras>Save Settings. Despite that, customized shortcuts are saved only via the dedicated Save button in the keyboard shortcuts dialog.

Further, keyboard shortcuts are (I think) the only setting which requires this special step to be saved -- all other settings are saved on a global basis with either of the Save Settings mentioned above (automatic or manual save). So the save button in shortcuts is rather non-intuitive.

BTW, the link to your PDF guide to configuring FC (hosted at mediafire) doesn't seem to work.
