Still love FC but...
After FC update to 2009.02
& after several WinXP system Restarts,
FC suddenly lost all my settings,
& began speaking German.
Searched for FreeCommander.ini backups to no avail.
Even the Recycler is empty.
Any HELP?
Namaste.

As far as I know (which ain't much!), you have to make manual backups of INI files. I make a backup every time I make major changes, with a new name to clearly identify it.
I use FC Portable version, and don't know if this applies to regular version, but my installation includes a file called FreeCommander.ini.default, which is a fallback copy of the bare-bones new-installation INI file. Put a copy in another folder.
Delete or re-name the exisiting corrupted INI file.
Rename the "default" file ---delete the .default to use it.
You might be able to copy and paste some of your settings from the corrupt ini into this new one.
It also works for me to just completely delete the ini file, open FC, and when I close it, it creates a new ini file with current settings.
Or, you might have to re-install FC.
I've been down that road too, but my FC never changed from English to German.
