Multimonitor Issue

#1 Post by bugmenot » 17.06.2009, 16:22

Hi!

When using two monitors one could wish to have a taskbar on the second display. So do I! I am aware of four tools able to do this:
[1] http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/ (40$)
[2] http://www.binaryfortress.com/displayfusion/ (20$)
[3] http://www.mediachance.com/free/multimon.htm (free)
[4] http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/zbar/index.html (free)

With the first, everything is OK, but actually I would appriciate to use a free software. Without having tested [2] I tried [3] and [4] and found that both have a little problem with freeCommander.

It seems to me, that FC does some non-standard things with the taskbar. It appears twice in the windows taskbar! (I mean the standard taskbar, not the one added by the tools).

Obviously it could be because of buggy zbar/multimon, but I haven't see such behaviour with other programs. Therefore I decided to report this. If you are interested in figuring out and fixing this, just run zbar (no need to install) - even with only one monitor you can see what I mean.

I also experimented with the "minimize to tray"-option. But without success - the second FreeCommander-Entry remains in the windows taskbar even when the first one is minimized to tray. Btw, the context-menu of the second one only contains "Close" And "Restore". Furthermore you cannot minimize or restore the FC window by pressing the second entry in the taskbar.

edit: Using Windows XP SP3, running FC in vertical dual panel mode

Regards..
