Possible Bug - Crash

#1 Post by vgrillo » 24.10.2007, 18:30

Free Commander Version: 2007.05a
Windows XP Professional SP2

When I Right-Click within The LEFT window Pane and scroll down, as the mouse pointer rools over the SCAN Option Free Commander Crashes (Application Error).

This happens every time with all folders, drives and directories.
If I move the mouse pointer around the SCAN selection without rollong over it, and then down to the selections underneath, everything is OK.
I will try to uplaod a screen shot of the error (poss_bug102407.jpg)

In the Right Window Pane, everything works fine. This problem does not exist.

This is an awesome product, I just started to evaluate it a few days ago. It is the best I have seen in regard to a File Manager!!

Thanks

Workaround for right-click Crash on Scan

#3 Post by pfkalin » 29.12.2007, 03:01

I was able to get around the crashes by using a tool called shexview (do search for shexview and nirsoft - ccanot post URL since this is onloy first time I've posted anything here). Used it to remove McVSRightClickScanner Class.

Having FreeCommander not crash was more important than SCan in context menu.

Free Commander Version: 2008.06c
Windows XP Professional SP3

I am not sure what is wrong, but my FreeCommander often crashes with no error or warning messages. It is so frequent that almost drive me crazy!

I also installed another similar software named Xplorer2 Lite, it never crash.

I don't know it is the problem of my OS, or the bug of FC.

Wish your software will be stable.

Thanks.

Could it be Unicode file names?

I am not sure. But I must use Chinese characters in filename since I am a Chinese Windows XP user.

Can't FreeCommander handle utf-8 filename properly?

Will this be fixed in future version?

Thanks.

I too share the same problem on similar OS with similar version of FC. My PC is brand new. My old one runs on XP Pro too but SP1 and I've never encountered such problem so I guess it's something to do with SP3. I even had my computer crashing while I was moving a HTML file from FC pane to my open Firefox. I cannot be 100% sure FC is responsible but it's the only troublesome program on my computer. I wish so much it would stop doing this for I'd feel so sad to have to change file manager. I try using Xnview more often though it's made for pictures mostly but at least it doesn't crash all the time. I've already reported in bugs section as I had not seen your post. Hope Marek answers it and has suggestions.

I installed the latest version of FreeCommander (see specs. below)

The MD5 version: A6553D2E2A81A287117C451D10841F04
The File Size: 2,33 MB
Version Date: 31.10.2009

It crashed on me several times while I was working on organizing my files. Every time I created a new directory the program crashes. This happened to me 5 times within an hour.

I have used this program before and NEVER had this problem.

I have to close the process in Windows Task Manager.
