Better highlighting for items

In FC we have these options for the items:

"Open file/folder with single click"
"By click on extension or free space in label"
"By click on item icon"

Thanks to these options we can focus, open, and select any item with a single click, e.g.:

Code: Select all

| focus | open | select |
| | | |
|(*icon)| filename | .txt |
These options are very useful and I think, not many users use them

The problem is, that sometime it's not easy to find the exact place where the "free space in label" is, therefore the item is opened by mistake sometime.

Possible solutions / suggestions:

- Use a different cursor icon, if it's over the item for "open" use "hand" icon, for "focus" use "arrow" icon, for "select" perhaps "arrow" icon or some other.

- Use "Hot track" (highlight) the item just for the item part which is used, so if the cursor is over icon, highlight just icon part, if it's over the name, highlight just name, and if it's over the extension or over the "free space in label", highlight just this part.

- If the previous suggestion is impossible, then use hot track / highlight the item only if the cursor is over the name, not over the icon or extension, so it will be clear, that if hot track is used, the file will be opened, it would prevent accidental file open when clicking the extension to select.

You need to use a single click to open items and NC-mode. More here:

https://freecommander.com/fchelpxe/en/S ... CMode.html

This way, if you single click to different parts of the item, you can use 3 different actions, e.g.:

- click the item icon to focus item only
- click the item name to open item
- click the item extension to select item (even for multiple items)

It's a workaround for the column with checkboxes in Explorer.

BTW Selecting items could work also if single-click is disabled, not sure if it's possible.

Now I do

And I concur with your suggestions; as I do not use FC in such way, because of the issues your pointed out
