change file associations using FC?

#1 Post by ottenm » 04.04.2008, 03:24

Sorry if this is obvious, but is there a way to change file associations through Free Commander? (the thing in explorer under Tools | Folder Options | File Types).

If not, thanks for any suggestions. FC is so sweet, I just hate launching explorer anymore.

I don't think it's possible, but you can use the Control panel icon in FC - item Folder Options.

You can define a shortcut in FC for getting the windows-dialog "open with ..." .
  • Extras
    Keyboard shortcuts ...
Commands: Extras - open with... ("Extras" at the end of the list/not alphabetical)
    New Shortcut: Whatever you want
    Assign
    Save
    OK
If you now want to open a filetype with another program, you mark the file, use your shortcut and chose the program for opening the file (always open with...)

Alternatively, you can right click the file and choose the open with.. from there.

Uh, like, that's just too pathetically obvious there clanman.

I'd like to delete this thread so my children aren't profiled into disadvantaged schools.

Thanks.
