Thank you for the replies. I was thinking along the lines of the "merge" command that is in "2xExplorer" in which you just highlight the files and hit merge.

This is what i do with my "concat" tool: i select files from FC, click on Tools->Concat and then I get a file (named ".joined") which is the union of the selected files.
I hope this helps you.

katt888, I am trying to add your program to the favorite tools. But am unable to enter anything on the "program" and "start folder" boxes. the arrows in your example (and in the help note) show little triangle or folder with ... those things are not present when I open, name a new favorite tool. Am I missing something?

ly92078, I just made a bug report about editing Favorites Toolbar.

You need to go to the menu Extras, Favorite Toolbar, Edit, and then the Program, Folder, and Command buttons will show the little arrows.
Actually, clicking on the Program button or the Folders button will still work, even though the arrow is missing. Only the "Command" button won't work without the arrow.

Hope this helps.

granny,

I did go to the menu Extras, Favorite Toolbar, Edit and the little arrows were only on the parameter and icon file. No arrows on Program or start folder, and I cannot enter anything in those boxes. Do I have a corrupted program?? I am running 2009.02

There may be a misunderstanding...I am going to extras favorite tools (not toolbar) edit... and i get I get a box with "define favorite tools" not toolbar.

As described above I am trying to enter a new tool, not a new toolbar.

oops, yes, I meant Favorite Tools, Edit.

When the editing dialog opens, the top window says Tools. At the right of that window are icons to add, re-name, and remove custom toolbars.
If you have existing toolbars, click the down-arrow next to Tools and select the name of the toolbar you want to edit, or just use the Tools one that is there by default.

Under that "toolbar name" window are the small icons to add and edit the tools that you want on the toolbar you selected. Click on the arrow on the icon "Items:add to list" , and click on one of the selections on the drop-down list for a Program, a Folder, or the small arrow at right of Command if you want to put a Freecommander command on a button (for example, you might want a command to toggle show/hide hidden files.)

You want to add a program, so click the button that says Program ...
and browse to the program you want.

If you want to edit/change a button that is already on the toolbar, click on the button in the list in the main window so it is highlighted, and go to the right side of the dialog where it says "Programs" and click that down-arrow to choose from the list for a different program, folder, or command.

This would be easier with screenshots, but I'm at work and can't upload to file-hosting sites.

I wish I knew how to do screen shot! I have read the answer posts over and over again. I uninstalled and re installed FreeCommander. I have read the help file over and over again. I have searched the forum.

I still do not see any way to define and add a program using the "edit favorite tool" The screen it pulls up, labeled at the top "Define favorite tool" does not look like the screen in the help section, because it lacks any way to put anything into the "program" or "start folder" boxes.

The suggestion granny made: "Under that "toolbar name" window are the small icons to add and edit the tools that you want on the toolbar you selected."

I do not see those icons!

Am I in the wrong screen? As stated above the screen is labeled "edit favorite tool"

I FOUND the Problem!!!

The little icons granny described WERE there, but on my computer display they were almost completely covered by the tool bar box. This definitely seems to be a bug in FC! The icons need to be moved down a little so they are visible! I am running XP pro on a Dell inspiron 8100.

The problem with your icons being partly hidden MIGHT be because you are using large DPI settings for your monitor.

Standard DPI setting is 96. I use 120 DPI on my laptop, and the top edges of the icons are covered by the "toolbar name" window.

If I go to an even larger DPI, the icons get completely covered.

I don't think this can be considered a FreeCommander bug ----
it is a Windows problem, Windows does not scale the interface components correctly at non-standard DPI.
I have lots of software that has odd display results from using large DPI settings, but my eyes are too poor to go back to standard settings.

It WOULD be nice if more software developers tested their interfaces at other DPI settings. Most do test for other screen resolutions, but they forget about the DPI settings. I think as monitors get larger and screen resolutions go extremely high, and everything is displaying as tiny little pinpoints, more and more users will start using large DPI.

Maybe this is something that Marek could adjust to make the interface more friendly. Hopefully just an easy tweak.

granny,

you are absolutely correct! My DPI is 144 and yes I do have trouble seeing the fine print (and I am an eyedoc!).

I appreciate all the good work that has gone into FC and find it to be a great file manager.
