Slow Networking Issue
Slow Networking Issue
Hi,
I have FC XE 2014 Build 650 and find when trying to connect to a networked server FC just sites there doing "something" for several minutes.
Here's an example:-
1. Open FC and edit the address bar
2. Enter \\SERVERNAME\
3. As soon as I enter the final backslash the mouse spinner starts and FC just sites there for approx. 2-3 mins (you can't do anything with it until it finished doing whatever it's doing)
4. Eventually I can finish entering the address (in my case adding the admin share of c$)
5. But then it goes back to doing what it did in step 3 i.e. another 2 min hang
6. I eventually see the folders

Re: Slow Networking Issue
Having continual problem with network access so I can only assume FC has some serious flaws. I have tried other file managers and all of them work perfectly fine with networked connections. I suggest FC removes the ability as it clearly doesn't work properly. Shame.

Re: Slow Networking Issue
Not possible.Make no difference
1. Under Help/About check the location for freecommander.ini
2. Close FreeCommander
3. Open freecommander.ini with some text editor
4. Search if the line with PathEditAutoCompleteSource exists - if yes, then change the value to 0
5. Otherwise add new line in the section [Form]:
[Form]
PathEditAutoCompleteSource=0
6. Start FreeCommander
Re: Slow Networking Issue
OK I've tried this and it made no difference.Karol wrote:Not possible.Make no difference

However, the biggest difference I've found is if I change the Network Settings to "Use FreeCommander for network loading".
If I select "Use windows Shell for network loading" the performance is shocking.
Note if I use Windows Explorer the speed is absolutely fine and very fast.

Re: Slow Networking Issue
I have also noticed an unusual slow browsing of network shares.
I browse a file server mapped to a letter.
Going into a folder, going back, then back in. Or in another folder. It is very slow.
However other programs and Windows Explorer browse quite fast.
I don't touch the address bar in my case.
I played with every combination of the settings under Network - no change. Still slow.

Re: Slow Networking Issue
Have you checked the current public beta http://www.freecommander.com/fc_beta_en.htm?
Re: Slow Networking Issue
Yes, it behaves the same.Karol wrote:Have you checked the current public beta http://www.freecommander.com/fc_beta_en.htm?

Same problem here (build 673).braykov wrote:I have also noticed an unusual slow browsing of network shares.

Re: Slow Networking Issue
I have found I keep an older copy - 641.
It works perfectly with the network files, so I am switching to it while this gets fixed.

Re: Slow Networking Issue
Is the tree visible?Same problem here (build 673).
Have you checked without tree?
Re: Slow Networking Issue
In my case, I don't use the tree.
Re: Slow Networking Issue
Is some difference between "List" and "Details" mode?
Re: Slow Networking Issue
That was a nice hint
I always use the Details view, where it is slow.
I just tested with the List view and it works quite fast. However, this is not suitable for me. I do need the Details.
Update: I have just found the problem. It is the Owner field which I have displayed. When I switch it off, all versions of FC work just fine.
