Hi,
I transitioned to FreeCommander XE from Total Commander. In FreeCommander i consider a particular operation very difficult: moving the current file to the parent directory.

In FreeCommander XE, these are the steps I'm doing:
1. Press F6
2. Click the "Use current folder" checkbox
3. Click inside the target directory
4. Press Ctrl-A
5. Write ".."
6. Press Enter

In Total Commander, the steps are easy:
1. Press F6
2. Write ".."
3. Press Enter

Could you advise a faster way for FreeCommander XE?
(I consulted the FAQ and Google, but without any success.)

I hope the solution to naturally work with slight variations of the initial operation:
- move the two selected (highlighted) files to the parent directory
- move the two selected (highlighted) files to a subdirectory

There are many ways to move current file to parent dir.:

1. Ctrl+X
2. Shift+C for drive C or Ctrl+Home (customizable)
3. Ctrl+V (same as TC)

0a. Set other panel path to root*
0b. F12, File/folder operations, set all to Use FC*
0c. Set Move dialog, 3rd tab option "Auto minimize when starting the operation", click SAVE*
1. F6 (2 steps faster than TC )

0. Create new tab with root path (and lock tab)*
1. Drag and drop item to the new tab (again, faster then TC)

0. Open tree*
1. Drag and drop item to root path in tree

Drag an drop the file into ".." at the top of the folder. That should work.

I checked your solutions.

I'm currently using a slight variant of your first solution that actually goes to the parent directory (instead of the root folder):
1. Ctrl+X
2. Backspace
3. Ctrl+V
4. Enter (to return to the source directory)
( And yes, I have the following enabled: Set Move dialog, 3rd tab option "Auto minimize when starting the operation", click SAVE* )

I understand that might work for some users, but not for me - the "setup" (opening the parent directory) must be done for each directory I want to make the operation (move) in.

Moving on to the operation "move the file to a subdirectory". (Assume there are subdirectories alpha and beta)
In Total Commander I can do the following to move the file to the alpha subdirectory:
1. F6
2. Press a (and the combobox shows the existing paths)
3. Press Down (to select the first proposal)
4. Press Enter

I guess I'm looking for a keyboard-only solution (though other users may like using the mouse more).

Your answer was exactly I was looking for.

In my previous attempts, I used only ".." and not "..\" path.

Regarding the operation "move to a subdirectory": Do I need to write the name of the subdirectory by hand (suffixed by /) or is there another way (I know of clipboard)

Perhaps the path in the copy/move dialog could be auto-selected (all) with options for drop-down, e.g. history, root drives, favorite items, so it would be easier to use, just F6, down, down.., Enter.

In the release 776 it is possible:
1. F6
2. Ctrl+A
3. Del
4. Down
