Find & Select All Folders Containing Specified File Types

#1 Post by bgxyrn » 17.03.2017, 22:37

I have many files and folders living on various USB drives which I'd like to consolidate onto drives specific to the file types that they contain (that is, one drive for video files, one for audio files, one for photos, etc).

What I'm wanting to do is execute a search within a given parent folder which would return a list of folders containing video files which list I could then select and collectively move (along with their contents, of course) to a new drive or parent folder, while maintaining the existing folder structure.

I've played with the search function within FC but haven't managed to do this successfully.

You could use Synchronize (Alt+s) for this.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Could you elaborate? It's not at all clear to me how I would do that.

have your source folder on the left and target drive on your right. press alt+S

in the synchronize window, select the filter tab and add the extension for the filetype you want to filter.

return to the files tab and press "compare" button. it will scan your source folder and find the files matching your extension. Then press the "synchronize" and you can set your options to copy from left to right and press OK. sync tool will recreate the folders to match your source drive.
