Basic instructions on Plugins and where to find them

I have been a long-time user of Freecommander and I am aware of the basic info that Freecommander uses Totalcommander plugins.

My question is - it's been many years since I first looked into this and I am not able to find the basic page where all this is described. Surely almost everyone who uses the program needs a basic guide to the most important viewers (such as for Microsoft word files) and I just can't seem to find where that is stored. Also, I am presuming that this changes over time as plugins are updated or new ones come around. No doubt there is a list somewhere of recommended plugins that would get most ordinary users off the ground (?)

Am I missing the main "do this first" page for plugins on Freecommander? If I am, could someone point the way? I've looked in the help file without finding any info on where to find them or which are best to install.

Surely I am missing something obvious and there must be "sticky" page somewhere?

Sorry to miss the obvious but thanks for any help.

FC XE supports 2 types of plugins - WCX (packer plugins) and WLX (lister plugins for internal viewer). All other types of plugins are not supported.

You can find big list of plugins at http://totalcmd.net/

In FC XE you can find, add and make settings for them in
Tools - Settings - Archiver plugins - 'WCX' tab
and
Tools - Settings - View - Viewer - 'Viewer' button - 'Plugins' tab

Thank you guys very much. And I suppose i can combine that with the information on the "Universal Viewer" page here: http://www.uvviewsoft.com/uviewer/lister_plugins.htm

Plugins working with Universal Viewer also work with FC XE Viewer, yes.

The information in this thread is excellent and very useful.

Perhaps it can be made into a sticky or part of a FAQ?

As an additional note, it is important to stress that the safety of many of these viewers needs to be verified. The source code is not available for most of them, and many are hosted on random sites.

Some of the viewers have not been updated in 5-10 years.

But many plugins are updated constantly and you can see source code for some of them.

If you are not so much around the trust, then let's start with the fact that the source code of FC XE seen nobody, except developer :)

To which plugins are you referring?

To which plugins are you referring?
List with 30 last updated plugins http://totalcmd.net/plugring.php?type=30
Names of last updated plugins with sources: TotalObserver, ZPAQ, ANSI viewer plugin, SFTP plugin. Of course, not all types of plugins are supported by FC XE.

By the way, source code could be even seen for 7Zip Plugin 0.7.6.5a that was last updated at 3.11.2011 http://totalcmd.net/plugring/7zip_plugin.html. But for some unknown reason no one need these sources and no one creates an updated version of that plugin.
