Is there a way to define by extension how files are sorted?

#1 Post by mythicalBuster » 12.09.2015, 00:32

I want my files in my media folder to sorted in this order:

Pictures
Videos
Text files

This is generally how it's sorted, however, depending on video file extension, videos can be anywhere in the file list - top, bottom or middle. This is probably more of a Windows question but maybe FC has some kind of workaround.

Sort by type (Ctrl+F4)?

Nope. Video files are still disjointed in the file list. It's really odd. I created a bunch of zero byte files of different video extensions to show what it looks like.

Researching more, it seems to be an unresolved Windows issue.

If you use names only like on screenshot (video#, p#, m#, t# and so on) in that case use sort by name (Ctrl+F3).

If names could be different (for example, video_01.avi, movie_02.flv, film_03.wmv, ...), I think there is no way to soft files like you want (by filetypes with different extensions despite names).

There is an option "Items color", it's possible to define a unique color for several extension, this might be a workaround to distinguish the file types, but perhaps with a new feature it could be used to "sort by items color".

Example for items color:

*.avi;*.wmv;*.mp4;*.mpg;*.m2v;*.vob;*.ts;*.flv;*.3gp;*.mov;*.mkv
*.bmp;*.gif;*.jpg;*.jpeg;*.png;*.tga;*.tif;*.tiff
*.mp3;*.mp2;*.mpa;*.wav;*.wma;*.ogg;*.flac

Perhaps the name could be add for the items color option, too, e.g. videos, pictures, songs...

Anyway, I'm not sure if this is possible to implement.
