How to hide extension of a link - *.lnk?

How can you hide the extension of a link - *.lnk (and in special folders only)?

So e.g. instead of
FreeCommander.exe - Verknüpfung.lnk
show
FreeCommander.exe - Verknüpfung

This works in Windows Explorer but has never worked in FC.
