I'm kind of a long time user of FC. I enjoy it quite greatly, use it every day, but I think there things that are, well, old. For example user interface is going a bit rusty IMO and experience smoothness of using it is not that good. For certain tasks it is plain laggy and slow. It lacks dark mode and using themes has been verified that it is slowing GUI down. Since there are one-year updates that had not brought any significant performance update in the past I wonder whether there are any chances of going open source with this piece of nice software. Maybe community would help to move it forward? I believe all would thrive from it. I might be wrong and this question of out the table.
What do you, users and author, think?
FC going open-source?
Re: FC going open-source?
I've also been using FC for many years.
But FC slowly, rusty? No no no!!
The user interface is clear and easy to use.
Strange designs usually only make software worse.
I hope FC stays as it is: perfect (or almost perfect ).

I could search for some topic about this, but I will just evoke the latest one: https://freecommander.com/forum/viewtop ... 18&t=12217
A for the idea of going open source - I am not a coder so I can only say this: I think it is solely up to Marek to decide
Re: FC going open-source?
Double Commander is open source, it is written in almost the same language as FreeCommander, so maybe you could contribute to it.
FreeCommander has a much better looking inteface, in my opinion.
