XE_chm throwing me off...

#1 Post by crony » 07.09.2021, 18:18

Usually, when an update comes to light, I download the next available based on the donor login page top update. It's not hard to grab the biggest number, the version on top wins. But today when I logged in, I find FreeCommandXE_chm; not a version number (ie. 849, 850, 852, etc.) that I am used to. What is chm? Is it an acronym for something new? Or have I just overlooked this for so long and finally paid attention to the writing on the page after login?

You should have seen this before.
Chm files are help files.
This is the help format used since many years by all applications.
Without special means modern Windows can't even read old style help files in hlp format.

Windows 7…10 has a built-in security feature that will block opening the old help-file format "chm" if saved from the internet.
You can unblock the local saved *.chm file to see the content.
Look at FC FAQ:
https://freecommander.com/en/faq-freeco ... help-error
Or you can use the online help:

Interesting. Glad I didn't try to install this then. I grabbed 852 until I could figure it all out. I've been so busy today I've worn myself out and am ready for some sleep and much-needed rest. You all stay safe out there. And thank you all so much.
