Copy folderstructure with file type selection

#1 Post by mgroen » 07.03.2021, 14:32

Hi,

is FC able to copy(move) files with folderstructure but within the folder structure only copy(moveI files matching a specific criteria?

Example1:
folder structure:
c:\test\test1\ contains:
1.pdf
1.doc
2.pdf
2.xlsx
c:\test\test2 contains:
1.pdf
2.pdf
3.doc

if a user wanted to copy c:\test with subfolders (test1, test2) but only copy .pdf files to D:\

target folder D\TEST would be created.
with subfolders:
d\test\test1 containing:
1.pdf
2.pdf

d:\test\2 containing:
1.pdf
2.pdf

Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure if I understand, but probably like this, press F5/F6 and type *.pdf to filter field.

I had to change FC's default copy method (Tools->Settings->File/Folder operation->General->Copy)

It was setup as "use Windows", so I had to change it to "Use FreeCommander".

I can't remember setting this to "use Windows", is this FC's default setting? If so, why is that, and couldn't be better changed default to "Use FreeCommander" ??

Mey mgroen,

I have my FC setup to use FC-Method when copying, and also I have my FC setup NOT to copy with a dialog.
The way I use FC, I normally select files in the one pane and copy them into a directory in the other pane. Without dialog it is faster.

If I need to copy using the dialog, I have setup my main splitter with an additional command, "copy with dialog".

You can setup your toolbars with various commands as needed, see this:

https://freecommander.com/fchelpxe/en/D ... lbars.html

One of the wonderful aspects of FC is, that each user can setup a very specific configuration to meet their specific needs.
It doesn't matter what the default setting in FC is. It is expected that users will change it accordingly.

I believe having the Windows method as default makes sense, because most users know how Windows functions work which makes getting to know FC in the beginning easier.
If I want to learn more, I read the manual and if that isn't enough, I can ask the FC community here on the forum for help.

Glad you found a setup that meets your needs.

Best regards,

Hey odamn,

thanks for your tips.

Well, in my opinion it would be better to have FC by default use the FC Method, because then you start to know FC and its possibilities by using FC.
If I didn't dive into it and read the manual I didn't even know the FC method was existing! So, I had to search for it first. Better alternative would be to use it and allow users it to disable/switch to faster methods.

Do you know the Queue feature? It's very useful.

Anyway, it's OT here, so you can continue in this topic, perhaps also copy your posts there, you can find my opinion and also reply from Marek:
