If I am downloading an archive file from a service like https://www.nexusmods.com and during that proces I evoke for it the Rename window of FreeCommander, then after it is finished I always get pop-up error Apparently FC sees the semi-temp archive file with zero size as a completely different file ...

Which status you are talking about? Where? In the root folder or on the Status Bar?
