What you need is "favorite toolbars". You can find it here Extras->View->Tollbar->Favorite Tools Bar.

This can be done with a semi double click. You need to click the same file within about 1 to 2 seconds after the last one.

If you have folder view turned on and you are accessing a network drive, this may be your problem. FC has known issues with network drives.
The other thing you can do is rename your freecommander.ini file then start the app. This will ensure you get a clean start.

Use the favourite folders instead. This allows you to specify active or inactive folder.

Search folder exclussion list
I use the search (Alt+F7) a lot. What I would love to be able to do is define a list of paths which the search does nlot traverse. This would save a great deal of time when searching multiple drives that contain say temp folders which you do not want searched.
