I don't know if it will be working, but why do you want older version? Xe has more features (except FTP and few more), more options, it's more customizable... Version 2009 has almost no support now.

Perhaps it's time to change the status of the XE version from beta to stable version, I know there are few features left - to implement, but why not have 2 stable versions - temporary? Open settings > view > folder tabs > [v] close all not locked tabs when the program ends, you can enable also the option below this one "[v] close all tabs with UNC...". Then make sure the tab you don't want is not locked. Also disable the option "[ ] always keep one tab opened"....

Hm.. right now I'm testing the other things and all toolbars have a drop down menu button if it can't be displayed fully, but menu doesn't have any - perhaps it might be considered as a bug?

I don't know why, probably it was needed to fix some bug(s).

I know it might be considered as a bug for some users, not all read the forum, so perhaps it should be clearer in the options...
