Understanding "focused item" and "hot item"
First of all, thanks for your patience with a newbie. I've recently moved to FC/XE as my file manager of choice. Part 1) The Help file (Tools - Settings - Select items - Tab General) defines "hot item" as "the item beneath the mouse." I can't find a definition of "focused it...

Perfect! That does the trick. Thank-you very much!joby_toss wrote:Just hold the right mouse button down for more than 2 seconds.
QUESTION: Where is this in the documentation? If it's not there, how on earth did you discover this?

Re: Checkbox for select file
This still doesn't allow the user to mouse click to sticky select. To achieve that, put a checkmark by "Select with right mouse button." After being puzzled for several days, I just figured out: this setting causes one to lose the ability to right-click and get the context menu for files....

Re: Checkbox for select file
In order to select multiple files in FreeCommander, and have them stay selected -- without using <Ctrl> or <Shift> keys -- one uses the "NC-Mode (sticky selection)." Nowhere in the Help file does it explain what "NC" means. This stumped me for a while, until I was looking at othe...

Re: Checkbox for select file
Aha! One solution to achieving the same result as checkboxes is: Tools - Settings - Select items, and go to the tab titled "NC-Mode (sticky selection)". Put a checkmark by "Select items in NC-Mode" and that's it. How simple is that! No need to add secret codes to the configuratio...

Re: Checkbox for select file
I don't get it. this is far from Select Checkbox I have to agree with ravellar. With checkboxes, one randomly clicks any boxes, and they all retain their status. No need to hold down <Ctrl> or <Shift> keys. Dreamer's workaround is nothing like that... unless I haven't modified the .INI file correct...

Re: Keyboard shortcut to switch between panes AND tree
Dreamer,
Thanks for your wonderful help.
That last one sounds complicated! I think I'll just use what I've got. It's not perfect, but good enough.

Re: Keyboard shortcut to switch between panes AND tree
Wow! It works! Thank-you very much. Actually, it works a bit TOO well... When I'm using dual-pane layout, and want to switch between panes, HotKeyP intercepts my <Tab> presses, and makes them into <Shift-Tab>. So I have to use the mouse to move between panes. What I am really after is just to use <T...

Re: Keyboard shortcut to switch between panes AND tree
I downloaded HotKeyP. And yes, I do need some help. :>) * The CHM help file for HotKeyP doesn't work under Windows 8. All other CHM files open fine. * I think I see how to convert a key press into a command to run a program. But I don't see how to convert one key-press into another key-press (i.e. c...

Re: Keyboard shortcut to switch between panes AND tree
Free Commander's default keyboard shortcut for <Tab> is to switch back and forth between the two panes. I'd like to expand that to include the tree pane. I don't see an option for that anywhere in the list of keyboard shortcuts. And since I often work with just one pane, it would be nice if it swit...
