I'm just going to stick my nose in for a minute ---
I use FC mostly on XP 32-bit and I don't have any problem with my caps getting stripped out when I zip folders and files. I've let the packer use the existing name, and applied a new name, and haven't had this happen.

FC doesn't officially support 64 bit Windows so this might be your problem.
