OK sorted, it was a problem with Windows registry-possibly caused by Notepad++. All perfect now.

Don't know if I'm being a bit thick here but I have just updated to windows11 and using Freecommander v858 64 and I can not get 'New text document' in the context (right-click) menu (works fine on windows10). I have copied working settings from win10 to win11 FC but still no go. I have tried earlier ...
