Activating the main menu item "View → Split horizontal" or the shortcut "Ctrl+H" changes the arrangement of the two panels (from horizontal to vertical, or vice versa):

The default setting separates the FreeCommander main window vertically by the main splitter; the two panels are placed side by side.
